Details

NS104 Unobtanium is a very dense gun metal blue with lots of sparkle. It is well suited for stringer application and blown work. It is easily worked and can take a lot of heat. To keep the color most vibrant, work in a neutral to slightly oxidizing flame. Try to avoid deep encasement, it may cause cracking. Please use NS104 Unobtanium with care and test your application before making expensive pieces. Outside work seems to work just great with no problems. Try coating NS104 Unobtanium with NS086 Garnet or NS088 Pomegranate to achieve a brilliant ruby sparkle. Any transparent color coated over NS104 Unobtanium looks great.

the sickness!!!

by -

this is one of my favorite colors..I can't keep enough of it in the shop I use it as fast as I can buy it....works stiff but it's one of the most beautiful sparkly opaque blues I can abuse it and work it as long as I need and it always looks the same....takes tons of heat to melt this stuff down though

Great color

I really like this for a backing on marbles and pendants. I have had different batches though and sometimes it has looked more gray than metallic. Last few times I have gotten it the sparkle has been getting better and better. Perhaps the recipe is still evolving. I have not had any issues but I do not use it for inside or implosion work. I garage at 1000f and have not had any issues with garaging either but I normally save the work using this color for the second half of the day since it's recommended to keep garage times short also. Seems almost every custom piece I have been making lately the customer wanted this on it. Putting clear or transparent color over it is one of the things I love to do with it. Clear frit on top gives the effect of rain on metal. So sick.

Great for outer applications

Love this for outer work. Beautiful sparkled blue. Care needs to be given for deep encashment.

I use this color often

This color is a great sparkly faded blue. I find a brighter blue can really pop when used with unobtainium. Great color!

Beautiful

Has to be one of my favorite colors. Just the way it looks when combined with seemingly any color combinations and the way it pops whether used in small work or large pieces is amazing. Also suprisingly easy to work with for such a rewarding finish look

Great Color - Do not Implode!

Great color, looks just like it does in the photos, takes lots of abuse. Trust Northstar when they say it won't tolerate deep encasement, because it won't! Great for outside work though!

Great color

Love using this as an accent in tubing!

Insane!

I am brand new to glass blowing but I can’t wait to get my hands on some of this!

Awesome sauce

It took me a while to figure out how to encase this color. The sheen it gives off is incredible. There really is nothing else like it.

Little bit stiff

by

Such a good color as long as you don't encase it

Challenging color but well worth the effort

This color looks great striped and encased in clear but has significant checking/cracking problems for me. Most worryingly, sections will look OK immediately after annealing but will develop cracks over the next few days and I consider it unusable there even though it looks great. The warnings are no joke!
It would probably look great with a transparent color overlay too, but I haven't experimented with that yet. Better handling or a smarter kiln handling may make it work but I have not had much luck so far.
Thankfully, Unobtanium looks great unencased and with some care I can use it in that application successfully. It feels a bit on the thicker/stiffer side when working but I haven't had any huge problems with boiling. The unobtanium family gives me hr giger vibes, and are definitely worth all the trouble for the unique and beautiful look.

Amazing!

Easily one of my favorite colors to use for backings on just about anything! Holds up well in any heat you give it and always comes out with a perfect opaque sparkle! 10/10

Great for drips! Sparkly blue metallic look. Tried doing some blowouts and had some luck in some pieces but some cracked. Its a tricky one. Best used for outside work or backing marbles
