Parallel closing flatteners with 2 X 2 inch paddles - fixed closing height (not adjustable). The mashing surfaces are mounted on parallel action pliers instead of ordinary pliers. This causes the surfaces to remain truly parallel to each other whether they are fully closed, fully open or anywhere in between. Maximum opening height is 11/16", Maximum closing height 1/8". Stainless Steel.
Quality Masher The good-
As described, the quality of these is excellent. I'd expect your children's children to still be using them. They work as expected, keeping the plates perfectly parallel at any spacing. Leverage is good and effort is reasonable.
The bad-
These are large heavy pliers and if your hands are small, the handles might start too far apart to close them.
The finish is a nice matte glass beaded (blasted) finish but they may arrive with some of the grit still in the pivots. A good cleaning, blowing out and oiling may be needed. It would be nice if they closed just slightly more, but a clip-on brass spacer would easily solve this if needed. Finally, there is some texture to the paddles that can be seen in the pressed glass surfaces.
These are perfect for my purposes and my large hands, but may not be ideal for every user and application.
