Griffin 14mm Ground Joint Reamer - Aluminum Handle

1 Review

Some flameworkers have been forming their own ground joints using a reamer and a waxed glass ground joint to finalize the tapered fitting.

We designed this line of tools as a two-part joint forming tool. Use the reamer to achieve 90% of the tapered fitting and the brass 'plug' to finalize the shape.

Both parts are the width and length of a German or AccuGrind™ ground joint. Joint forming tools should be waxed each time they are heated. For best results, slightly preheat the plug in the back flame before using. Overheating the tools while forming the joint may cause the two parts to stick.

Brass is used instead of graphite for longevity and consistency of the formed joint shape after multiple uses.

Make custom joints!

by -

This is an incredible tool! I make joints from home made tubing. No more common clear or colored joints for my domes. I use striped and home made solid color tubing. Blow and shape the tube into a conical shape (approximate the final shape) from vacstack, coil pot, or blown gathers (using a mini plow pipe) then do a semi final shape with this reamer. Final shaping is with a waxed standard 14mm male joint. I put a mark on the reamer to indicate the exact depth I need. Be sure to warm the reamer first. As it is a brass tool it will not wear, very important to ensure correct sizing of your custom joint.
