Details

Once again rising above the ordinary, GTT has created the next generation of the standard torch, but there is nothing standard about it. The Scorpion uses the mighty Bobcat as the center fire and is equipped with B Fittings. The Bobcat is well known for its efficiency on a 5 LPM concentrator and the great ability to work both soft glass and borosilicate glass with ease.

The Scorpion has an 8 jet outer fire using our new patent pending 100% surface mix design that optimizes 10 LPM or two 5 LPM concentrators with optimal results. The Scorpion makes the flame size of larger torches with fewer jets, owing the phenomenal performance to the newest GTT innovations in jet design.

The Scorpion was designed with concentrators, low pressure and low consumption in mind. The Scorpion runs great on one 10 LPM concentrator, two 5 LPM concentrators or tanked oxygen. Oxygen consumption is 11 LPM (22 CFH) at the maximum flame size. It requires as low as ¼ psi to 5 psi of natural gas or propane with a low consumption rate of 1.5 LPM (3 CFH) at the maximum flame size. The Scorpion is the master at using low pressures for optimal results for soft or hard glass.

Great all around torch.

The GTT Scorpion is a well-crafted, standard surface mix torch. It’s flame size is a little wider than that of a Lynx though it has slightly less flame/heat adjustability due to the Lynx’s seconday oxygen control. Both seem to get the job done well in their own unique fashion. I love the Scorpions wider flame as it is still one hot little torch even without the secondary oxygen control. It still will give you all the classic flame settings of most other surface mix torches on the market. The Cricket center fire of this torch runs very well (approx. 75 to 80% of max flame potential) on one 10lpm 20psi oxygen concentrator. I think this is important to know since in my experience it seems people have higher hopes and are slightly disappointed in the outcome. I personally used the above concentrator hooked to the center fire while the outer fire was powered by a tank. I loved this setup as one could make pendants, marbles, and most prep work for cheap using the center fire, and only bust into the tanks when you need a melt down. I no longer use this setup as I found the flame from the concentrator to be a little too reducing for my tastes, but should work wonders for less picky folk looking to save a dime or two on oxygen costs. I have little doubt that two of these concentrators would run this torch very well, and would benefit even more from a holding tank to equalize the flames. All in all the Scorpion is a wonderful torch, perfect for small to medium boro art, sculpture and production. Great for beginners and seasoned artists alike.

Fabulous torch!

This is my 3rd torch and quite possibly my last. This torch was designed to make optimal use of an oxygen concentrator and it delivers. The center fire can dial down to a pinpoint flame & then you have the added heat from the outer flame for larger sculptural pieces and boro. Couldn't be happier.

Quality Torch

The Scorpion has been fantastic to use in my studio. The ability to run it completely off of oxygen concentrator units means no more lifting and toting large tanks around. Not to mention not paying the costs inherent with bottled Oxygen. The center fire is perfect for my usage on small pendants, stringer work, and marbles. The outer ring is great for larger work, and has been getting the job done for me with no complaint. The Scorpion is definitely worth a look, especially if you wish to run solely on generated oxygen.

But this

I just got this torch today, cranked it on and made a couple pieces.
I just went from a Nortel Mid-range Plus, and to me the Scorpion is unsurpassed. It melts the glass like butter, what would of taken me an hour, I just made in 15 minutes. Of course it only took 3 days to get here, and Dustin at Mountain Glass was super helpful!!
Thank you Mountain Glass!!!
