Details

Of the striking colors in the borosilicate palette the Amber/purples are some of the most exciting. NS013 is the first in a series of five Amber/Purple colors. It is well suited for sculpture and moderately thin blown work. The color can produce pale yellows to ambers to a deep purple. To yield the most vibrant purples, work in a hot neutral to slightly oxidizing flame. Reduction will affect the strike. Try encasing your favorite Amber/Purple with NS032 Violet or NS031 Lavender. To enhance NS013 Amber Purple try backing it with NS054 Star White.

Nice Implosions

by -

Nice color and easy to use. Liking the outcome when using for implosions. Haven't used it in other applications so we'll see how that goes.

One of the best colors Northstar makes

One of my favorite striking colors! you can achieve a broad range of colors including brilliant blues and rich, deep purples hence the name. There is a trick to it: it must be worked in an oxidizing flame so the first layer of silver precipitate can burn off completely but reduction afterwards can also yield a nice amber color that contrasts the blues. Over reduction or failure to burn off the silver layer will result in duller colors and a scuzzy look, be sure to read Northstar’s tip for working Amber Purple on their website! Otherwise, it’s a very stable and buttery color which makes it great for both solid and blown work and the sheer amount of silver in it makes it fun for encasing and implosions too. Definitely a color to try if you haven’t yet.
